Concrete slab moisture is a significant factor to consider when selecting a floor coating or covering. Some coating systems are not tolerant of high moisture in the concrete. Similarly, many adhesives used for carpets, laminates and tile used today are not as tolerant of high moisture content in the concrete slab as their predecessors a decade ago. Stains and dyes used with polished concrete are also affected by high moisture content. Accordingly, specifiers must consider moisture content when designing a floor coating or covering. The moisture content of the slab will influence selection of materials used.

Learning Objectives:
• Review procedures for evaluating moisture in concrete slabs.
• Review the acceptance criteria for moisture in various floor coating systems.
• Learn what remediation techniques can be done when installing floor coverings when damp concrete is encountered.
• Learn what impacts damp concrete can have on floor stains and dyes.
