Session: Reflective Roof Coatings and Systems

The advancement of coatings in the construction industry, particularly the roofing industry, has developed quickly over the last few years. This paper is designed to discuss the main sub-categories of roof coatings' function: reflectivity and waterproofing. Some coatings can actually perform both functions, but the keys to their selection are to prepare, design, and test and then to determine what are the appropriate steps in their use. Further, white isn't always best, even in the South. Silver might not be so bad after all!

Learning Objectives:

Provides participants an overview of the selection of roof coatings that are currently available within the market today.

Outlines key factors when choosing each coating and what the major decision points that should be taken into account need to be.

Understanding the variables that are driving the current energy calculators available on the market and where they might need assistance in achieving more accurate results.

Gaining knowledge of current case studies within the marketplace on roof color, reflectivity, and actual energy savings based solely on the overall Solar Reflective Index.
