What are the alternatives for removing mildew from uncoated concrete block exteriors before coating?

Depending on your ability to pressure wash and wait for the block to dry, an alkaline cleaner possibly mixed with bleach is a good alternative. If pressure washing is not an option, a formulated hydrogen peroxide cleaner will work best. The slight bubbling action will release the mildew from the pores, and there is little residue from the cleaner that could affect the paint.
