A project to paint a historic Victorian farmhouse located on a 46-acre nature preserve is up for bid in North Fulton County, GA.

The City of Johns Creek is seeking requests for qualifications from contractors to paint portions of the exterior of Autry Mill Nature Preserve and Heritage Center’s Summerour House.

Bids are due July 9. A pre-bid meeting was held June 25.

Scope of Work

The project involves painting exterior surfaces of the historic home, including the back porch floor, steps, and a surrounding white picket fence.

The work includes power washing, repairs, and coatings on the historic home.

The contractor will power-wash exterior surfaces using a very low psi to remove biological staining and surface soiling, before coating application.

The contractor will then paint the bottom trim, back railing, vertical spindles, hand and base rails, front railing, vertical spindles only, rear port roof trim/fascia, and the front porch floor, steps, and surrounding concrete surfaces.

The work will also include replacing, repairing, and painting exterior damaged and decayed wood.

Contractors will be required to provide references of at least three projects involving older or historic homes, according to the project documents.

About Summerour House

The Victorian-style farmhouse was originally constructed in the 1880s. In 1992, the structure was saved from demolition during construction of the Atlanta Water Treatment Facility and moved to the nearby Heritage Village section of Autry Mill Nature Reserve.

The exterior of Summerour House maintains its original 1880s appearance.

Preserve managers renovated the house, and it is now used as both an event venue and a teaching tool for tours, field trips and school programs. While the exterior appears as it did in the 1880s, the interior has been painted by decorative artists and the park has added electricity and air conditioning.

According to the park’s audio tour, the house was named for wealthy landowners who were the first residents of the town.

Summerour House also features a heritage garden designed and planted by the Master Gardeners of North Fulton.
