More items for Maintenance + Renovation

The Town of Braselton, Georgia, is seeking contractors for exterior coating services for three town-owned buildings: Braselton Town Hall, the Braselton Retail Building and the Braselton Grist Mill.

The Town Hall was built in 1910 and is the original home of William H. Braselton. In 1980, the home was converted into the Town Hall, leaving the foyers of the home still intact and barely touched. The Braselton Grist Mill was built around 1900 and used to produce 75 barrels of flour and 300 bushels of cornmeal daily. It was one of the last mills in Georgia to make self-rising flour and closed in the 1950s. Although the Braselton Retail Building's history isn't as deep, the building is currently the known as the “House of Clay,” which offers a wide variety of pottery classes and events.

The Town of Braselton, Georgia, is seeking contractors for the exterior coating services for three town-owned buildings: Braselton Town Hall (above), the Braselton Retail Building and the Braselton Grist Mill.

Bids are due for this project by Oct. 15.

Scope of Work

The awarded contractor is responsible for the preparation and coating of all three buildings. When preparing each building's exterior, the contractor is instructed to power wash all surfaces, including the metal roofs, one to two weeks prior to coating. Any areas where loose and/or flaking paint is present, the contractor is to scrape and wire-brush clean. When preparing the windows, all trim boards must be scraped and brushed, and all wooden surfaces are to be sanded to a smooth finish. If any rotted trim, siding or cornices are discovered, these items are to be replaced prior to coating.

When all preparations have been completed, the contractor may coat all windows by applying one coat of primer, caulking and filling all rough wood to a smooth finish, followed by spot priming and finishing with two coats of a latex paint. Siding on each building will also be given one prime coat, followed by caulking and filling of all cracks and nail head holes, spot priming and finishing with two coats of a latex paint. Coating of the siding must be completed with a brush; spraying is only permitted if back-brushed. Finally, any soffits and rakes are to be given one coat of primer and two coats of a latex paint.

Work is to be completed within one year, according to a schedule proposed by the contractor, so that all buildings may continue to be occupied during the work.

The owner-approved brand is Sherwin-Williams.
