To account for transportation of the future, architecture firm UNStudio recently presented plans for a series of hyperloop stations that can be adapted and rolled out quickly to a variety of areas within urban centers.

The ease of adaptability would allow for the rapid implementation of the hyperloop system, a form of transportation that relies on vacuum-sealed tunnels with pods that carry passengers at high speeds. UNStudio created the design, known as Station of the Future, for HyperSummit, a conference led by Hardt Hyperloop geared toward implementing the new transportation system across Europe.

In UNStudio’s plans, modules can be assembled to suit the needs of different locations, ranging from stations that fit in small urban areas to large transport hubs. Unlike plans for traditional transit, the platforms in Station of the Future would be curved, rather than straight. Stations would also include modules for luggage check-in, daycare or pocket parks.

The stations would be solar-powered and each would act as a battery to store solar power collected on the hyperloop itself. This plan follows on the forecast trend of buildings functioning as batteries in the near future.

"The hyperloop is not only a realistic and viable alternative to flying, it is going to revolutionize travel," said van Berkel.

"It will provide extremely fast travel times with direct connections between cities, enabling completely new ways of working and spending our leisure time, which in turn will lead to a multitude of economic, environmental and knowledge exchange benefits."

Research from the Hyperloop Implementation Programme shows that a route between Amsterdam and Frankfurt—a 450-kilometer (roughly 279-mile) journey—would take roughly 50 minutes with the hyperloop, rather than the customary four hours with traditional transportation.
