Amsterdam-based AkzoNobel has revealed its Color of the Year for 2019, pulling from a “new sense of optimism” from consumers.

The pick, Spiced Honey, is a warm amber that can suit any mood, Akzo says, and leads the way for this year’s theme: Let the light in.

Amsterdam-based AkzoNobel has revealed its Color of the Year for 2019, pulling from a “new sense of optimism” from consumers.

“Today’s reveal of Spiced Honey is another milestone in empowering consumers worldwide to choose paint colors with absolute confidence,” said Heleen van Gent, Creative Director of AkzoNobel’s Global Aesthetic Center.

“It’s a color which can be calming or nourishing, stimulating and energizing, depending on the light and colors surrounding it.”

Speaking of colors surrounding the hue, Spiced Honey also inspired four color palettes, which the company says are designed to stimulate consumers and make it easier for them to experience the chosen shade.

Palettes include:

  • A Space to Think – A combination of hotel chic and real-home warmth, the think palette combines a mix of neutrals with soft pink, burgundy and deep blue. Polished woods and mid-century furniture would complete this look.
  • A Space to Dream – Elegant yet whimsical and playful, the Dream collection mixes more muted pinks and blues and pairs them with pale wood and decorative fabrics to center a feel of home.
  • A Space to Love – Kicking things up a notch, the Love palette is the warmest of the four with terracotta red taking center stage. Botanical prints with forest green and teal accent.
  • A Space to Act – This playful group combined pale blue with grays and crisp whites with a touch of yellow for energy.

“Our latest trend research shows that people around the world are experiencing a renewed sense of energy, optimism and purpose,” continued Van Gent.

“We want to reach out, engage with others and make things better. Spiced Honey reflects those desires. Last year, many of us were left unsettled by global events, so we closed our doors to retreat and regroup. Now we feel ready to open our windows and let the light in.”
