The Vermont Department of Buildings and General Services is seeking contractors for the painting of four structures at the Chimney Point Tavern Museum in Addison, Vermont.

The cost estimate for this project is $100,000. Bids are due by June 13.

Scope of Work

The work includes the cleaning, preparation and coating of four existing structures. The awarded contractor is required to prepare and paint all standing seam-metal roofing in addition to scraping and painting all double-hung windows, exterior doors, trim, wood clapboard, wooden entry steps and porches.

When preparing wood and metal surfaces, the contractor is to properly wash, rinse and dry before scraping or caulking. Methods of cleaning need to follow preservation briefs provided by the National Park Service. Power washing is strictly prohibited on this project. Once metal surfaces have been cleaned, the contractor is to scrape, sweep and properly dispose of all metal-roof areas. Following the scraping of these surfaces, the contractor is required to clean the metal a second time with an oil and grease emulsifier prior to coating.

When coating the metal surfaces specified, the contractor is to first apply one coat of an acrylic primer to all bare metals and one coat of a universal primer to all rusted or spot-primed areas. Following the priming applications, all metal surfaces are to receive two coats of a high-performance acrylic gloss system.

All shutters scheduled to receive paint must be removed from the exterior structures, scraped, primed, recoated and reinstalled. Porch structures and railings are to be coated with an exterior acrylic gloss.

It is required that all painted surfaces must be coated by brush application only. Any spray painting has been strictly prohibited. Before coating, the contractor must get approval for colors listed to match existing as close as possible. At the end of this project, the contractor is responsible for providing the owner with two gallons of each approved finish paint colors for any future touch-ups or repairs.
