Global coatings company AkzoNobel has updated its take on wood coating trends for 2018.

AkzoNobel

The trends were based on research by Robert Haley, color trends manager for AkzoNobel’s Wood Coatings business, and the studio artisans in the AkzoNobel Color Studio in High Point.

At this year’s Spring High Point International Home Furnishings Market (held April 14-18 in North Carolina), an interior trade show, AkzoNobel updated its wood finishing trends with four focuses:

  • Historically Modern – dominant wood tones, mixed with contemporary looks;
  • Reclamation – weathered, raw and organic with imperfections in the wood;
  • Pearl and Metallic – a mix of modern and contemporary; and
  • Opaque – two-tone looks in a contemporary style.

According to the Woodworking Network, the trends were based on research by Robert Haley, color trends manager for AkzoNobel’s Wood Coatings business, and the studio artisans in the AkzoNobel Color Studio in High Point.

“These trends influence many designs,” Color Trends Manager Robert Haley said in a statement. “Our job is to help our customers translate these trends into unique techniques, color and wood finishing processes that support their business objectives.”

The company maintains that its Fall 2017 predictions are holding true, namely its 2018 color of the year, Heart Wood, and the continuation of two-tone monochrome wood finishes in the home.
