An architecture research firm is calling for anyone and everyone to submit their video footage of London’s fatal Grenfell Tower Fire with the goal of building a 3-D model of how the fire spread last summer.

Forensic Architecture, which operates out of Goldsmiths at the University of London, says it plans to superimpose footage onto a model of the building, hoping to understand and show how exactly the flames spread so quickly.

Grenfell Media Archive - call for footage from Forensic Architecture on Vimeo.

“Our aim is to create a powerful and freely available resource for members of the public to explore and better understand the events of the night of the fire,” said the firm on its website.

“These pieces of footage will become a continuous ‘3-D video’ of the fire, mapped onto our architectural model of Grenfell Tower. The model will allow the user to investigate the fire, and will sit within a web platform which will ultimately act as a freely available public resource.”

In addition to being free for public consumption, the findings will be made available to the government teams conducting both the public inquiry and the panel that’s reviewing building regulations.

The public inquiry is being led by Martin Moore-Brick, who recently held procedural hearings to review progress of the inquiry.

The panel is being led by Dame Judith Hackett, who is still expected to release a report in the coming weeks. She released a preliminary report in December in which she found the system “not fit for purpose.”
