The Green Infrastructure Foundation (Chicago) announced on Monday (March 26) the release of its new Living Architecture Performance Tool, which it says will aid projects that involve green roofs and walls.

According to the foundation, the LAPT is a rating system and best-practice guide that will certify that green roofs and walls will achieve a certain measurable and replicable performance. By providing performance benchmarks, the tool will increase the efficacy of living structures and bolster credibility.

The Green Infrastructure Foundation (Chicago) announced on Monday (March 26) the release of its new Living Architecture Performance Tool, which it says will aid projects that involve green roofs and walls.

“Designers, building owners, and maintenance professionals can use the LAPT to optimize the range of benefits possible from their projects, while policy makers can also use the tool to maximize public benefits and create effective policies for living architecture,” said the foundation, in a press release.

The development of the tool was led by Lois Vitt Sale, FAIA, LEED Fellow, and David Yocca, FASLA, AICP, LEED AP.

“The LAPT offers us a chance to creatively integrate ecological, social and environmental considerations into projects to maximize benefits for both the building owner and the community,” said Yocca.

The program is now in the pilot phase, which offers 25 organizations the opportunity to participate. Projects across North America that are using any combination of green roofs and green walls—in any phase of design or construction, as well as projects completed within the last five years—are eligible to participate.
