The International Code Council has teamed up with the Alliance for National and Community Resilience to develop the country’s first “whole-community resilience benchmarks,” focusing on buildings, water and energy.

The organizations say that the system aims to provide communities with a transparent and practical way to self-assess and easily gauge their resiliency efforts and note that the creation of this system is particularly timely in the wake of the nation’s recent slew of natural disasters.

“2017 was an important year for ANCR and our efforts to bring together public and private organizations in this groundbreaking venture,” said ANCR Chairman Warren C. Edwards.

“We expanded our membership, our Board of Directors and our funding. We look forward to working with our many partners to give towns and cities across the U.S. a system to improve their preparation efforts for storms, fires and other disasters.”

The group is still in need of subject matter experts for several volunteer positions. Specialists who are interested should submit their resumes to ResilientAlliance@gmail.com by 5 p.m. on Feb. 1.
