More items for Good Technical Practice

A new way to experience Durability + Design's sister company PaintSquare is making its debut today (Jan. 16) at SSPC 2018: the brand-new PaintSquare app, engineered to be a field coating contractor’s best friend and to provide an ideal mobile experience for PaintSquare readers.

Available free of charge for both Apple and Android devices, the PaintSquare app includes news and technical content from PaintSquare.com in three languages alongside tools that are crucial in the field: weather reports and calculations, quick calculators to easily determine figures like paint consumption and dry film thickness.

How the App Works

When a user logs into the app using his or her PaintSquare.com login credentials (or creates a new account for free), the main menu offers a slew of content choices. The user has the option of viewing the app in English, Spanish or Portuguese.

The new PaintSquare app offers PaintSquare content in three languages, as well as tools including calculators and weather conditions.

Choosing “Weather” takes the user to a weather map with current conditions in the area, and to a calculator to determine whether the surface temperature is high enough in relation to the dew point so that coating application can be performed. The app also has an option to quickly calculate dew point using observations from a sling psychrometer in the field.

The app features calculators to help the user quickly determine the rate of paint consumption based on the desired dry film thickness and percent solids of the given coating; estimate the wet film thickness needed in order to achieve the specified dry film thickness; determine soluble salts concentration based on surface conductivity; and several other important operations used on jobsites.

An RAL color chart is featured as part of the app, and a catalog of suppliers of coatings and equipment, as well as industry contractors, is both searchable and browsable.

The app also features the same industrial coatings news coverage found in PaintSquare Daily News, including technical articles from JPCL.

The PaintSquare app was developed by Technology Publishing Co., publisher of JPCL and the PaintSquare publications, as well as Durability + Design, under the leadership of app general manager Camilo Zambrano and vice president of operations Andy Folmer.

More information about the app is available at the PaintSquare booth at SSPC 2018, booth #1029.

Another New Addition

This spring, Technology Publishing Co. is also adding to the PaintSquare portfolio by launching PaintSquare Press, a new quarterly print publication.

PaintSquare Press will arrive in the mailboxes of PaintSquare readers this spring.

PSP will feature engaging content related to coatings projects, products and personalities.

From case histories and personnel updates to product comparisons and announcements, the new tabloid-sized publication will provide the information PaintSquare readers have said they want.

Regular features in PSP will include:

  • Case studies that highlight the successful use of specific products and techniques;
  • New product announcements;
  • Product roundups, comparing offerings from various suppliers and manufacturers in specific niches;
  • Roundtable discussions with respected industry professionals;
  • Profiles of industry figures and companies;
  • Industry news briefs such as personnel moves, facility expansions, regulation changes, mergers and acquisitions; and
  • The PaintSquare Prestige Awards, a new series honoring excellence in protective coating projects.

PaintSquare Press, distributed free to PaintSquare readers, will arrive in the mailboxes of industry professionals starting in March; the first issues will include features such as a discussion between specifying engineers about their decision-making process and approach to new products, and a preview of the inaugural Prestige Awards.

Submissions of story ideas and content for potential publication can be directed to PaintSquare Press editor Andy Mulkerin at amulkerin@paintsquare.com.
