In addition to its 2018 Colormix Forecast and its 2018 Color of the Year, The Sherwin-Williams Company (Cleveland) recently added palettes for commercial and professional spaces heading into the new year.

“Driven by the fashion industry, commercial spaces need to appeal to a broad audience,” the company said. “Since most commercial projects are focused on interiors, these spaces have the flexibility to be more adventurous with color, texture and materials.”

The coatings company released palettes for commercial, hospitality, healthcare, education, multi-family and new residential last week. Each palette features eight colors, many of which are inspired by the forecast that was released this summer, the company notes.

“Our goal is to provide professionals inspiring and practical resources—these palettes offer the best of the latest color trends combined with insights on the specific needs and attributes of each market segment,” said Michael Plank, director of color marketing and design at Sherwin-Williams. “We look forward to seeing how professionals incorporate the palettes in their designs to create even more transformative spaces.”

Commercial

“Driven by the fashion industry, commercial spaces need to appeal to a broad audience,” the company said. “Since most commercial projects are focused on interiors, these spaces have the flexibility to be more adventurous with color, texture and materials.”

The palettes include:

  • Native Species – This palette of muted pastels is aimed at standard office and retail spaces and features mainly soft, cool colors, such as Grape Mist and Faded Flaxflower, with a few neutrals.
  • Athletic Energy – This bright, active palette features a hue from nearly every color family, including Grenadine, Indigo, Venetian Yellow and Retro Mint.
  • Crafted Calm – This collection of neutral was inspired by retrofitted spaces and would work great with elements such as exposed brick, the company notes. Shades include Essential Gray, Pavilion Beige and Fresco Cream.

Hospitality

“The Hospitality palettes were influenced by multigenerational travel and take guests on a journey that feels unique and luxurious,” Sherwin says. “Guests, specifically millennials, want their hotel to reflect the neighborhood they are staying in and expect selfie-worthy spaces to take pictures in.”

The palettes include:

  • Easy Sophistication – Described as “understated luxury,” this palette pulls in a variety of bolds (Rockweed, Charcoal Blue) and lightly tinted hues (Mellow Coral, Dusted Olive).
  • Vibrant Voyage – Rich and vibrant colors all complement each other in this palette such as Limon Fresco, In the Navy and Heartthrob.
  • Nordic Calm – True to its name, this collection of hushed neutrals aims to be relaxing with shades such as Light French Gray and Ibis White.

Health Care

“Health-care settings are unique in that they help rehabilitate, stabilize and inspire those who are on their path to wellness,” the company notes. “As a result, the residential market will always influence the health-care industry because people want to feel at home, even if they are at a hospital or long-term living facility.”

The palettes include:

  • Composed Organics – The pastel earth tones are influenced by the need for privacy, Sherwin notes, aiming for a quiet and calm feel. Hues include Shiitake, Natural Linen and Nantucket Dune.
  • Focused Energy – Aimed to help guide and engage (think color-coded wings), this palette offer vibrant cool colors including Aquarium, Celestial and Wisteria.
  • Warm Welcome – Curated especially for interior finishes, this collection includes shades such as Persimmon, Ginger Root and Baby Bok Choy.

Education

“Designed to help stimulate learning for all ages, the Education palettes were inspired by everything from home accessories to kids’ fashion to mythical creatures,” Sherwin says.

The palettes include:

  • Fresh Blooms – This collection of floral pastels was designed to be both fun and non-distracting at the same time. Colors include Hyacinth Tint, Tame Teal and Blissful Blue.
  • Varsity Bold – A brighter and bolder version of the previous palette, this selection includes notes such as Berry Frappe, Perfect Periwinkle and Bella Pink.
  • Global Frequency – Rich and eclectic, this palette hints at a semester abroad with tones such as Exuberant Pink, Cityscape and Intense Teal.

Multifamily

“The Multifamily collection was influenced by the trend of people moving into the city and works for various lifestyles, demographics or residential applications,” the company notes. “In addition, the idea that walls have to be painted white is diminishing, as more and more residents expect their spaces to reflect their individual style.”

These palettes (in both interior and exterior collections) include:

  • Global Adventure – Inspired by culture and crafts, this palette includes a loud interior collection (Oceanside, Heartthrob, Honey Bees) and a rich exterior collection (Borscht, In the Navy).
  • Soft Minimalism – A slew of calming colors in this palette aim to encourage residents to unplug. The interior scheme includes colors such as Sashay Sand and Functional Gray while the exterior includes hues of Wheat Penny and Colony Buff.
  • Virtual Pop – This high-energy palette was inspired by the world of tech and combines interior colors of Jay Blue and Organic Green with exterior colors Canyon Clay and Drizzle.

New Residential

This collection is specially curated for specific rooms in the home that are seen more and more and spaces are utilized differently. “For example, man-caves have evolved to include designated ‘she-sheds’ in the home as an outlet for women to relax and practice creative hobbies,” the company adds.

The palettes include:

  • Refined Minerals – This selection works well for places designated for relaxation, Sherwin notes, as it includes colors such as Rojo Dust, Less Brown and Pearl Gray.
  • Hi-Def Drama – Energetic and bold, this cool collection includes hues of Black Swan, Twilight Gray and Queen Anne Lilac.
  • Worldy Charm – This collection is inspired by woven textures and wanderlust and includes confident colors such as Rockweed and Oceanside.
