The Safety Leadership Conference, presented by EHS Today, wrapped up its three-day event on Nov. 30 at The Hilton Atlanta with the theme “Who Leads Safety?”

The Safety Leadership Conference, presented by EHS Today, wrapped up its three-day event on Nov. 30 at The Hilton Atlanta with the theme “Who Leads Safety?”

The conference offered several session tracks including Construction, Safety & Risk Management, Compliance, and Safety Technology. Some highlighted sessions included:

  • ABC 2017 Safety Performance Report, presented by Greg Sizemore, VP of HS&E and Workforce Development, Associated Builders & Contractors Inc. and Mike Bellaman, President & CEO, Associated Builders & Contractors Inc.;
  • Best Practices/Management of Emerging Compliance Issues in Construction Today: Confined Spaces in Construction & Silica, presented by Ed Foulke, Partner, Fisher Phillips; Hilarie Warren, CIH/ Senior Research Scientist, Georgia Tech Research Institute; and Steve Davis, President, GRM Inc.;
  • Maintaining Employee Engagement in a Constantly Changing Construction Site, presented by Jim Thompson, Corporate EH&S Director, Kwest Group; and
  • How an Evolving Workforce Will Affect Your Productivity and Safety and What You Can Do About It, presented by Steve Ludwig, Safety Programs Manager, Rockwell Automation.

Conference-goers also enjoyed several keynote speeches—“You Don't Have to Trade Off Safety for Production,” by John Carrier, Senior Lecturer, MIT Sloan School—and several tours, including the Juneau Construction Company and the recently constructed Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Looking Ahead

The International Code Council is seeking presentation proposals for its Building Safety and Design Expo, which is slated to be held Oct. 21-23, 2018, at the Greater Richmond Convention Center in Richmond, Virginia.

The International Code Council is seeking presentation proposals for its Building Safety and Design Expo, which is slated to be held Oct. 21-23, 2018, at the Greater Richmond Convention Center in Richmond, Virginia.

“All presentations topics should focus on providing educational and technical information,” the council says. “Presentations should help to educate attendees about building code compliance, building safety, leadership and/ or building technology.”

Proposals are due Jan. 31, 2018.

The Building Safety and Design Expo gathers building safety and design professionals together to learn about the latest products and services that keep building safe and aid in maintaining code compliance.

“The Building Safety & Design Expo brings professionals from the built environment including local tradesmen, architects, engineers, along with plumbing, mechanical, fuel gas, building and fire safety professionals from around the world together to make it easier to exchange critical information on the latest technologies for building a safer, more resilient world,” the ICC states.
