The DoD Corrosion Policy and Oversight Office has released new information with the Whole Building Design Guide, aiming to help facility experts stay up-to-date on corrosion prevention and mitigation.

The new WBDG page, known as Corrosion Prevention & Control (CPC), tackles related issues, such as: facilities planning, restoration and modernization, competencies, acquisition issues, cost of corrosion, and environmental severity.

WBDG Portal

The WBDG is an online portal that was created by the National Institute of Building Sciences, and provides easy-to-access information for industry experts on technology, infrastructure and other topics.

Each of the pages of the CPC will address specific areas of concern, such as cathodic protection, corrosion science and pavements, among others.

The DoD Corrosion Policy and Oversight Office has released new information  with the Whole Building Design Guide that aims to help facility experts stay up-to-date on corrosion prevention and mitigation.

To add to the information already available, eight new training modules will be made available. The DoD Corrosion Office plans to post its first cathodic protection course in December of this year. There are also plans to post a course on utilities, waterfront and coatings by March 2018.

Supplemental Information

The new information, while written and intended for industry experts, is also meant to an up-to-date focus on critical facility areas.

“For those who design and construct DoD facilities and infrastructure, locating the proper CPC guidance can be very complicated,” said J. Clay Dean, P.E., an analyst in the DoD Corrosion Policy and Oversight Office overseeing the production of the new content.

“The incorporation of 10 new knowledge pages and eight multi-part training courses will greatly enhance the Whole Building Design Guide’s existing CPC Source. These additions will ensure that building experts at every level are prepared to make good design decisions that promote and sustain long building life,” noted DoD Corrosion Office Director Daniel Dunmire.

The WBDG site is available for free to the building community, supported by agencies such as the Department of Defense and NASA.
