Covestro LLC (Pittsburgh), the global polymer company’s North American business, recently announced that the head of its Polyurethanes business will be taking the helm as CEO next year.

Jerry MacCleary, a 38-year veteran at the company (which was previously part of Bayer), currently serves as president and managing director of Covestro LLC and head of Polyurethanes in North America. He will take over as CEO and chairman of the board for Covestro LLC on Feb. 1, 2018.

Covestro LLC announced last week that Jerry MacCleary (left) will take the helm as CEO in February; Erik Haakan Jonsson (center) will take MacCleary's place as president and managing director; and Christine Bryant will become head of the Polyurethanes business in North America.

MacCleary will also become chairman of the executive committee of the American Chemistry Council on Jan. 1, a move that was already scheduled. He also serves on the boards of the National Association of Manufacturers, the International Isocyanate Institute and the Center for the Polyurethanes Industry. He has been head of Polyurethanes at Covestro LLC since 2004.

“I’m happy to continue my executive leadership role at Covestro,” MacCleary said. “At the same time, I am excited for the opportunity to make an even stronger contribution at ACC, which plays a critical role for Covestro and the entire chemical industry."

Other Personnel Moves

Upon MacCleary’s move to the CEO position, Erik Haakan Jonsson, now the company’s chief operating officer, will take the role of president and managing director of Covestro LLC. Jonsson has been with the company since 1992, when he joined as a scientist. He holds a Ph.D. in polymer technology.

Christine Bryant will lead the Polyurethanes business. Bryant has led the company’s Coatings, Adhesives and Specialties business since 2012, and has been with the company since 1989. A chemical engineer by training, she has worked in marketing, sales, distribution and business development.
