Cleveland-based Pratt & Lambert Paints has revealed its 2018 Color of the Year, a midnight blue hue that leads a color forecast entitled, “Beyond,” that the company says is influenced by fashion, technology, travel, art and home décor.

The color, Heron, is both elegant and versatile, the company says, and can be plugged into styles that range from traditional to contemporary. While it can be a statement color, it also creates an aura of relaxation and was aimed to help create tranquil spaces.

The color, Heron, is both elegant and versatile, the company says, and can be plugged into styles that range from traditional to contemporary. While it can be a statement color, it also creates an aura of relaxation and was aimed to help create tranquil spaces.

“The 2018 color forecast for Pratt & Lambert was created to take our customers on a journey through color, culture and design ‘beyond’ what they’ve explored before,” said Ashley Banbury, Senior Designer, Pratt & Lambert Paints.

“In our search for serenity in today’s dynamic and often hectic world, we found Heron, our 2018 Color of the Year. It offers calmness, tranquility and adaptability allowing it to transform an ordinary space into a sanctuary that truly showcases the power of color.”

Heron mixes well with whites, grays and metallics and can also be paired with materials such as whitewashed wood, burlap, concrete and terracotta.

Pratt & Lambert’s “Beyond” forecast includes four trend palettes:

  • Intention: Thoughtful and restful, less is more with this palette. Soft and airy hues such as gray and pink (Sunset Snow, Gossamer, Designer White) complement the anchor color, Heron. This collection aims to create a space of relaxation.
  • Diverge: Minimalistic colors and clean lines paired with neutral colors (Silver Lining, Rubidoux) make up this palette, which also features pops of gray-greens, (Blue Lake Deep, Briny Deep) taking inspiration from the exploration of new worlds.
  • Boundless: An energetic and colorful palette, this collection showcases bright red hues (Red Statement, Cranberry, Orange Spice) contrasted against beige and cream neutrals (Classic Gray, Ventana) to illustrate design and storytelling.
  • Synthesize: This collection represents the humanized version of technology, the company says, and features a line of vivid colors including Burnished Gold, Old Amethyst, Woodland and Blueberry.
