On Oct. 2, the Center for the Polyurethanes Industry held its 60th Polyurethanes Technical Conference, where over 1,000 industry experts met to learn and network, with the winner of the Innovation Award announced later in the proceedings.

The 14 technical sessions covered a wide range of topics, from the latest issues in chemical management to the evolving regulatory landscape, which included a roundtable and an update from the Environmental Protection Agency.

The finalists for this year’s Innovation Award included BASF’s Irgastab PUR 70, Chemours’ Opteon 1100 and Covestro’s PUReWall, which were announced at the Monday opening session. On Wednesday (Oct. 4), Chemours was revealed as the winner.

BASF’s Irgastab PUR 70 is an amine-free, aromatic solvents-free, anti-scorch system for Polyol and PUR foams, and Covestro’s PUReWall is a new spray polyurethane foam formulation that enables residential wall panel production.

On Wednesday (Oct. 4), Chemours was revealed as the winner.

Chemours' Opteon 1100 is hydrofluoroolefin blowing agent that addresses industry needs, according to CPI, including flexibility with existing components and formulation stability.

“CPI commends Chemours for winning the 2017 Innovation Award,” said Lee Salamone, senior director of CPI. “Chemours’ pioneering application of polyurethane chemistry is a testament to our industry’s commitment to technological progress and the hard work, expertise and creativity of so many individuals.”

During the closing session, the 2016 End-Use Market Survey was revealed, which analyzed the major end-use markets for polyurethanes in North America. The Center for the Polyurethanes Industry also donated to STEM NOLA, a local nonprofit the strives to communities about the opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.
