The company says that its Zinc Clad 4100 product featured recoat times as short as 30 minutes, which allow for enhanced project schedules and turnarounds.

The three-component, organic zinc-rich epoxy coating eliminated the need for sweat-in time, Sherwin notes, and its packaging is consumer friendly, allowing applicators to mix components easily, quickly and accurately.

“Zinc Clad 4100 answers our customers’ need for a high-solids organic zinc-rich epoxy that enables productivity improvements across an array of shop and field applications,” said Tim McDonough, Marketing Director for Products & Services, Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings.

Designed for use over prepared blasted steel, the product provides cathodic protection to reduce corrosion potential, and the company says its performance characteristics are what help propel it further into not just the bridge and maritime industries, but in the structural steel market as well.

“For example, the coating meets Class B requirements for slip coefficient and creep resistance as defined by the Research Council on Structural Connections (RCSC) for use in slip-critical bolted connections in all U.S. states. It also meets the performance requirements of NEPCOAT List B for use on highway bridge steel in the Northeast U.S.,” Sherwin notes.
