Paint brush manufacturer Gordon Brush Mfg. Co. (City of Industry, California) announced earlier this week that it has acquired the Bronx-based Kirschner Brush Mfg. Company in a move that both entities describe as “a good fit.”

"After more than 58 years, the Kirschner family felt that Gordon Brush was the best fit to continue the family tradition of manufacturing our premium line of American made brushes and servicing our long-standing customers," said Israel Kirschner, President and second-generation owner of the company, who will stay on as a consultant.

Kirschner was founded in 1957—six years after Gordon—and manufacturers paintbrushes for indoor and outdoor walls as well as finishing brushes design to apply materials such as varnish, lacquer, enamel and shellac.

The company also made custom brushes and accessories, which Gordon Brush President and CEO Ken Rakusin was quick to point out.

"The acquisition of Kirschner Brush Mfg. Company makes perfect sense for Gordon Brush for two reasons,” Rakusin said.

“First, 50 percent of Gordon Brush's business comes from the manufacture of custom brushes. By adding additional technology, Gordon Brush can now include an entirely new line of custom brushes to its repertoire.”

Rakusin also noted that the Kirschner addition will boost Gordon’s Redtree Industries line, which serves the marine industry.
