The world’s tallest residential building is slated to crown New York City’s skyline, following the city’s architectural trend of supertall skinny skyscrapers.

The newest details about the Central Park Tower include an updated rendering and forthcoming sales of the building’s units, one of which is slated to go for $95 million. Designed by Chicago-based design firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, the skyscraper will reach a height of 1,550 feet upon completion.

The Central Park Tower

On average, according to 6sqft, the cost per square foot of space in the structure sits at $7,106, but prices for some units run higher than $9,000 per square foot. Twenty units are slated to cost more than $60 million. Unit 53, with the $95 million price tag, spans 7,984 square feet.

The skyscraper will also offer a variety of amenities for residents, such as a cigar bar on the 100th floor, along with a grand ballroom and a private dining room. The 16th floor will house more health-related amenities, with an indoor pool, spa and fitness center, and down on the 14th floor, there will be a conference room, a screening room and a play area.

According to Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill, the facade at the base will be transparent to allow light to filter into the department store on the lower levels.

Taking up residency along what has become known as Billionaire’s Row, the supertall skyscraper will have a seven-story Nordstrom store at its base, the clothing company’s flagship location in New York City.

Unlike the neighboring supertall skinny skyscraper 111 West 57th Street, which has stalled with 20 stories completed due to ballooning construction costs, the future of Central Park Tower looks promising, given that developer Gary Barnett has netted a $900 million loan from JPMorgan Chase.

Billionaire’s Row

West 57th Street is home to Billionaire’s Row, where many of trendy skyscrapers are taking root. Among these is the 432 Park Avenue, designed by Rafael Viñoly, which currently lays claim to the title of world’s tallest residential building. While the structure stands at 1,398 feet, Central Park Tower will stand another 150 feet taller.

The tower is slated for completion in 2019.

About the Firm

Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill, with principals Smith, Gill and Robert Forest, was founded in 2006. In addition to its Chicago headquarters, the firm has offices in Beijing. Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill was behind the recently noted Kazakhstan Pavilion, a giant glass sphere that serves as the centerpiece of Astana, Kazakhstan's Future Energy Expo.

I love it that they put the cigar bar on the 100th floor and the health centric stuff way down low. Seems backwards.
