DuPont has recently released a new fluid applied coating system for commercial substrates.

The DuPont Tyvek Fluid Applied Coating WB+ System is the newest installation in the fluid applied air/water barrier line, and is designed for use with DuPont Building Envelope products, the company says. The new system, based on Tyvek fluid-applied products, combines both the water barrier and vapor permeability into a reformulated fluid-applied membrane, according to DuPont.

The new system, based on Tyvek fluid-applied products, combines both the water barrier and vapor permeability into a reformulated fluid-applied membrane, according to DuPont.

The Fluid Applied Coating WB+ System can be installed in a one-coat lift of 25 mils with typical spraying equipment. It also provides up to two and a half times more coverage per gallon in comparison with other products, DuPont says, and saves on installation time.

With a combination of high solids content and STPE Technology, the Fluid Applied Coating WB+ System can move with the building. This allows for low membrane shrinkage, elastic recovery and high elongation, preventing shrinking and cracking, the company says.

Weathering Testing

DuPont’s new fluid-applied barrier system can function well in extreme conditions, in that it can withstand nine months of UV exposure and can be installed in temperatures as low as 25 degrees, the company notes. The process is also moisture cured, so installation can occur despite precipitation in the forecast.

"This innovation is exciting for our customers who need longer open times in the field as well as a product that is much easier to spray on the wall," Tim Wilson, DuPont North America commercial marketing manager, said in a statement. “Our system approach allows installers to have a fluid applied membrane, a fluid applied flashing and joint compound, along with sealants that are all compatible and install seamlessly together in the field."

The Fluid Applied Coating WB+ System also helps prevent water and air leakage at vertical walls of the building envelope, which provides for more energy-efficient structures and protects from mold and mildew, DuPont says. From the time of manufacture, the system has a shelf-life of 12 months, and can be cleaned with common citrus-based cleaners and mineral spirits, according to the company. The product can also be combined in hybrid application with DuPont wraps and flashings.
