The first commercial graphene-infused paint is now available in the U.K.

Distributed by The Graphene Company (London), Graphenstone’s (Servilla, Spain) line of paints and materials are highly sustainable and ecologically friendly, the company says.

Graphene, sourced from pure carbon, is said to be 200 times stronger than structural steel. Graphenstone says that the inclusion of graphene into its lime-based paints and coatings enhances hardness, durability, compression, tensile strength, elasticity, and coverage.

Graphene, sourced from pure carbon, is said to be 200 times stronger than structural steel. Graphenstone says that the inclusion of graphene into its lime-based paints and coatings enhances hardness, durability, compression, tensile strength, elasticity, and coverage.

The line is available for both indoor and outdoor projects, and while applicable on any substrate, the company says its market focus is currently on “projects with smart, sustainable and eco-build goals; optimum hygiene environments—such as in healthcare, education and catering; and buildings in corrosive or challenging climates.”

Graphene is also a conductive material, and the company adds that this paint aims to improve the thermal regulation of buildings, ultimately saving energy. The limestone base also allows for the paint to absorb CO2 as it cures, making it carbon neutral.

The company adds that the paint is free of VOCs, formaldehyde, heavy metals, toxic substances, carcinogens, and other harmful agents such as biocides or plasticizers.

“I have been inspired by the excitement about graphene as a wonder material, but Graphenstone’s paints, coverings and materials are one of the first applications of graphene to be fully project-proven at scale around the world and supported by numerous certifications backing up their claims,” said Patrick Folkes, director of The Graphene Company. “Bringing Graphenstone to the U.K. will contribute to more sustainable and healthier environments as well as offering an efficient and valuable point of difference to decoration, renovation, architectural design and building projects.”
