Indianapolis-based Firestone Building Products announced on Friday (April 28) that it has released the newest formulation of the company's polyiso insulation.

Polyiso is a closed-cell, rigid foam board insulation. It consists of a foam core between two facers, which are comprised of organic and inorganic materials.

Firestone Building Products has released its latest incarnation of polyiso, a closed-cell, rigid foam board insulation. It consists of a foam core between two facers, which are comprised of organic and inorganic materials.

Firestone says the new insulation, which it asserts outperforms the industry standard by 18 percent, has the highest available R-value per-inch available in cold temperatures, which the company adds makes it the best performing polyiso on the market in cold temperatures. (R-value measures resistance to the flow of heat; the higher the R-value, the better it insulates per inch of thickness.)

Added Benefits

Firestone says its polyiso insulation has sustainable properties for building owners, facility management and architects. The company adds that green building benefits of the insulation include:

  • It’s more environmentally friendly than mineral wool, requiring 85 percent less embodied energy to manufacture. Polyiso can be recycled and reused on reroofing applications.
  • It has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) 3.5 times lower than mineral wool. (GWP is a relative measure of how much heat a greenhouse gas traps in the atmosphere.)
  • It is eligible for LEED V4 credits in energy and atmosphere, and materials and resources.

“As a company, we’ve always been committed to manufacturing products that help ensure a healthy environment for current and future generations, and our newest polyiso formulation contributes to that vision,” says Ed Klonowski, ISO product manager at Firestone Building Products. “Architects can depend on our polyiso to provide their clients with a high-performing product that works to minimize energy use and reduce waste.”

Firestone Building Products manufactures materials for roofing, wall systems, and rubber liners and geomembranes for water-specific designs.
