New coatings for steel and metal surfaces have been introduced by PPG's Protective and Marine Coatings unit. According to the company, the new formulations deliver enhanced application properties with an optional satin finish.

PPG says the coatings, made with the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based firm’s polysiloxane technology, have improved flexibility to thwart the cracking under stress that plagues difficult steel and building exterior applications.

Applications for PSX 800 and PSX 805 are metal buildings and siding, structural steel, exterior lighting fixtures, signage, storage tanks, metal railings, bridges and finished metal parts.

The company notes that PSX 805, which was designed for use in indoor spaces with strict chemical emissions limits, boasts a durable satin-sheen finish that conceals imperfections that can dot metal surfaces.

The PSX 800 and PSX 805 coatings, the company continues, lessen the need for traditional three-coat finish systems. Its single-coat protection reportedly reduces application costs by replacing two-layer intermediate epoxy and polyurethane topcoat systems. That lowers emissions and minimizes jobsite waste, the company says.

PPG says applications for PSX 800 and PSX 805 include metal buildings and siding, structural steel, exterior lighting fixtures, signage, storage tanks, metal railings, bridges and finished metal parts.
