New Weathering-Testing Unit Larger, More Efficient

The Ci4400 Weather-Ometer, the latest in a line of xenon-arc weathering-testing units that can be used to assess the performance of coatings and other materials, has been released by Atlas Material Testing Solutions.

Features that set the Ci4400 apart from other units in the Weather-Ometer line, according to Atlas, include increased capacity, a larger chamber door, a larger and more intuitive touch screen, and more efficient air flow.

The Ci4400 Weather-Ometer features a 6500-watt, water-cooled xenon arc lamp system and a three-tiered, inclined specimen rack with removable sections.

The new model features a 6500-watt, water-cooled xenon arc lamp system and a three-tiered, inclined specimen rack with removable sections. The total exposure area is 1,130 square inches, a 10 percent increase over the similarly sized Ci4000. (The company offers one larger model, the Ci5000, with both a larger exposure area and a more powerful lamp system.)

Testing Standards

The Ci4400 Weather-Ometer meets or exceeds all common weathering test standards, the company says; the list of standards the unit complies with includes dozens of ASTM and ISO standards, among others. These include ASTM D3451, Standard Guide for Testing Coating Powders and Powder Coatings; ASTM D6577, Standard Guide for Testing Industrial Protective Coatings; and ISO 16474-1 and ISO 16474-2, both dealing with methods of exposure of paints and varnishes to laboratory light sources.

The unit can also be used to test the weathering of substrates including automotive interiors and exteriors, architectural roofing materials, sealants, plastics and rubber materials.
