ACI Elects New President, Officers

A construction industry leader will head the American Concrete Institute for the 2017-18 term, according to an announcement from the organization.

ACI’s membership has elected active member Khaled W. Awad to serve as president. The former senior vice president succeeds Mike Schneider.

Members also elected Randall W. Poston as vice president for a two-year term. David A. Lange is now the Institute’s senior vice president, which is also a two-year term. Several other members have also been elected to serve on the ACI Board of Directors, the organization said.

Awad is the founder of multiple firms and companies, most notable ACTS, a material and geotechnical consulting firm based in Beirut, Lebanon, and operating in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and several other countries of the Middle East and Grenea, an investment firm advancing and providing technical assistance to eco-developments around the world.

Khaled W. Awad (left) will serve as president of ACI for 2017-18. Randall W. Poston (right) has been elected vice president for a two-year term.

At ACI, he serves on the Certification Programs Committee, International Advisory Committee, ACI Board Committee Chairs Committee and the International Certification Subcommittee. He received the ACI Henry L. Kennedy Award and the ACI Chapter Activities Award in 2007, and the ACI Certification Award in 2011.

He received his B.E. in civil engineering from the American University, Beirut, Lebanon, and his M.A. in business administration from the Lebanese University, Beirut, Lebanon. Awad is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and ASTM International, and a Fellow of the UK Institute of Concrete Technology.

Vice President, New Board

Poston is senior principal of Pivot Engineers, Austin, Texas. With 30 years of experience, his expertise includes investigation of structural failures, evaluation of corrosion of steel in concrete, structural concrete repair and strengthening design and nondestructive testing.

ACI’s newly elected directors are:

  • H.R. Trey Hamilton, University of Florida;
  • Joe Hug, The Monarch Cement Company;
  • William M. Klorman, W.M. Klorman Construction Corporation; and
  • Tracy D. Marcotte, an expert and licensed professional engineer in metallurgical and materials engineering.

The board members will hold three-year terms.

Headquartered in Farmington Hills, Missouri, the mission of ACI is to develop and distribute consensus-based standards, technical resources, educational programs and expertise for individuals and organizations involved in concrete design, construction and materials.

ACI has 99 chapters, 65 student chapters, and nearly 20,000 members spanning 120 countries.
