Design professionals, contractors and others interested in air barrier technologies are invited to attend the Air Barrier Association of America’s sixth annual conference, to be held April 18-20, in Reston, Virginia.

“Air barriers are critical to building success,” the association said in an announcement on the conference program. “Without a modern understanding of air and moisture management, a flood of energy loss, repairs, and reputation are at risk.”

The ABAA annual conference brings together top minds in building science with expertise in building enclosures, moisture managment, air barriers, sustainability and enclosure commissioning.

The conference program promises to educate attendees at the highest technical level on how to prevent building envelope failures. Exhibitors will also be on hand to discuss the latest technological advances.

Participants will be able network with some of the top minds in building science with expertise in building enclosures, moisture management, air barriers, sustainability and enclosure commissioning.

Three comprehensive learning tracks are planned, according to the ABAA. Each track offers targeted content to design professionals, consultants, general contractors, subcontractors and others interested in the industry.

Full presentation topics, descriptions and speaker biographies can be found on the ABAA conference website.

Speakers and Sessions

Among the program offerings is a three-hour session on air and moisture control hosted by Dr. Joe Lstiburek, the principal of Building Science Corporation.

Lstiburek is a recognized building science pioneer, particularly in the areas of air barriers, vapor barriers, and vented and unvented assemblies. He has had a lasting impact on building codes and practices around the world, according to the ABAA.

Other program topics and speakers include:

  • Roof to wall interfaces and detailing of air barriers, Vince Cammallari;
  • Understanding new ASTM commissioning standards, Dan Lemieux and Martina Driscol;
  • Design and detailing of air barrier connections to windows, curtain walls and storefronts, Steve Bohlen;
  • Comprehensive detailing of critical interfaces for air barriers, Andrew Dunlap;
  • Air barrier pre-installation meetings, Corey Zussman;
  • Risk management for the building enclosure, Bill Nash and Ben Tonwsen;
  • Steps for construction managers to ensure high performance building enclosures, Brian Stroik;
  • New durability finding from air and water barrier testing, David Nicastro; and
  • Big air—building air barrier testing, Torrance Kramer.

Discount Rate Available

The ABAA serves as the voice of the air barrier industry in America and evaluates materials and assemblies.

The organization is offering a significant event discount for architects (including those working in firms or as independent specification writers) as well as members of the Building Enclosure Council and Construction Specifications Institute.
