What color will we paint our walls in the coming year? Well, according to the Pantone Color Institute, the answer is green—more specifically, “Greenery.”

It’s a hue that symbolizes “a reconnection to nature, one another and a larger purpose,” says color expert Leatrice Eiseman, who serves as the executive director of Pantone. Described as nature’s neutral, the color is a fresh and zesty-yellow green.

“Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment,” said Eiseman.

‘Pop of Color’

Greenery is forecast to make a splash in urban planning, architecture, lifestyle and design choices globally, she relates.

For architecture, the hue can become a part of interior design in a variety of ways, including floor-to-ceiling windows.

“Adding Greenery through living walls, terrariums, botanically-themed wallpaper, paint, accent future and décor provides respite and breathing space,” Pantone notes in its announcement

A wall painted in this hue provides a “pop of color,” with the added benefit of creating the illusion of nature indoors, the company says.
