The 58-year-old was transported via ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The painter, who was an independent contractor, had been working on a platform at a CL Industries Inc. building when he fell around 12:30 p.m. Monday (Nov. 21), according to local reports, citing officials. As of Tuesday (Nov. 22) morning, it remained unclear what caused him to fall or whether he was wearing a fall protection harness at the time.

After the fall, he was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim has not been identified. Orange County officials did not immediately respond to a request for additional details Tuesday.

Officials with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration have opened an investigation into the incident.

A spokesman for CL Industries issued condolences to the victim and his family. CL Industries provides aggregate finishes, deck coatings and building materials for commercial and residential pools.

Falling remains the leading cause of death in the construction industry.

Independent Contractor. What was the name of his company. Love that term. Very sorry for his family.
