Five Chicago-area homes have been honored as 2016’s “Finest Painted Ladies,” in an annual contest sponsored by the Chicago Paint & Coatings Association.

A home on Herrick Road in the suburb of Riverside took top honors as this year’s grand prize winner, as reported by the Daily Herald. The purple-and-blue Victorian, painted by Ronbo’s Fine Paint, was selected by a team of judges based on the quality of the paint job and how it complements the house.

A home on Herrick Road in the suburb of Riverside took top honors as this year’s grand prize winner.

To be eligible, a home must have been painted between Labor Day 2015 and Labor Day 2016. While the term “Painted Ladies” generally refers to colorfully painted Victorian homes, the contest, officially deemed the “Finest Painted Ladies and Her Court,” was open to other styles as well, provided a special paint job was involved.

Category Winners

There were also four category winners in the contest.

For its Best Use of Expressive Colors, a home in Elgin owned by Habitat for Humanity that was not professionally painted, was recognized. The paint job paired a tan with multiple shades of blue.

Best Use of Color for Style of Home winner

A gold-and-green home on Damen Avenue in Chicago won Best Use of Color for the Style of the Home.

A gold-and-green home on Damen Avenue in Chicago, painted by Kelso Painting & Decorating, was honored in the Best Use of Color for the Style of the Home category.

The category winner for the Best Use of a Bold Color Combination, was a red, white and blue-gray home on Douglas Avenue in Elgin, painted by Quality Painting & Carpentry.

Best Use of Paint Detail winner

Best Use of Paint Detail was given to a home on Commonwealth Avenue in Elgin, where whites and shades of blue highlight architectural details.

Josh's Painting's project on a home on Commonwealth Avenue in Elgin, featuring architectural detail in whites and shades of blue, was recognized in the Best Use of Paint Detail category.

The Chicago Paint & Coatings Association has honored fine painted ladies for 30 years; winners each year are honored with a plaque. For more information, visit the association’s website.
