A fenestration industry group has released a new document detailing best practices with regard to sealants.

The American Architectural Manufacturers Association last week released Voluntary Specifications and Test Methods for Sealants, a publication that comprises six distinct sections in addition to an introduction.

AAMA 800 deals with specifications and best procedures for dealing with sealants in fenestration applications.

This represents the first update for the AAMA 800 series since 2010. It deals with specifications and best procedures for dealing with sealants in fenestration applications.

Section Topics

The full document is AAMA 800-16; the six sections that go into it also retain their own individual publication numbers. This is the first time they’ve been separated out in this way. The specific sections deal with:

  • Back bedding/glazing compounds;
  • Back bedding mastic type glazing tapes;
  • Narrow joint seam sealers;
  • Exterior perimeter sealing compound;
  • Non-drying sealant; and
  • Expanded cellular glazing tapes.

“This latest version more easily facilitates use by sealant manufacturers and fenestration fabricators. This update will also ease the task of future updates,” explained AAMA 800 Maintenance Committee Chair Mark Toth, of H.B. Fuller.

Available for Download

The full document is available for purchase on AAMA’s website as a download. It costs $15 for AAMA members, and $45 for non-members.

AAMA represents members of the fenestration industry, including nearly 300 manufacturers and more than 100 professional and technical consultants, according to the organization.
