Attention student designers: Are you up for a challenge? The Sherwin-Williams Company is inviting submissions in its annual STIR Student Design Challenge.

The competition is aimed at celebrating excellence in both commercial and residential design.

Winners receive national recognition and cash prizes up to $2,500, according to Sherwin-Williams.

The Cleveland-based coatings company is accepting entries until April 15. There is no fee to enter.

Design students may enter original designs in two categories, residential and commercial, according to the company.

“Sherwin-Williams has a long-standing commitment to fostering emerging talent and their fresh perspectives,” said Sue Wadden, director of color marketing for Sherwin-Williams.

“We’re pleased to provide another outlet for expression and importantly, an opportunity for these young designers to share their visions broadly.”

Students may enter original designs in two categories, residential and commercial, according to the company. The contest is open to entries from individuals or from a design team of up to three students.

Cash Prizes

The grand prize winner from each category will receive $2,500. Second-place winners will win $1,000 and third-place winners will receive $500. The two grand prize winners will also have their work featured in the 2016 edition of the Sherwin-Williams’ STIR magazine, and all winners will be featured on the company’s Facebook page and in a future issue of the STIR email newsletter.

The competition will be judged by Wadden as well as Elizabeth Holmes of Elizabeth Holmes Design and Melanie Sofia Castillo of Interprise Design.

Holmes will aid in judging residential entries; Castillo will join in evaluating commercial submissions.
