A Louisiana start-up company has commercialized two new product lines for polymeric materials, which includes paint and coatings.

Advanced Polymer Monitoring Technologies Inc., based in New Orleans, credits a team led by Tulane University  Prof. Wayne F. Reed, as the innovator behind the new tools for polymer and biotechnology applications.

The technologies could be utilized by paint and coating manufacturers.

Reed is the director of the Tulane Center for Polymer Reaction Monitoring and Characterization.

New Product Lines

The automatic continuous monitoring of polymer reactions, referred to as ACOMP, product line has been developed over the past 16 years, the Tulane University spin-out company reports.

The product line allows manufacturers to monitor fundamental polymer properties continuously during the reaction, enabling much more efficient control over the quality of product and use of productions, feedstock and energy inputs, according to the company.

APMT

The ACOMP system allows manufacturers to monitor fundamental polymer properties continuously during the polymer reaction, enabling much more efficient control over the quality of product.

The company’s Argen product line consists of a 16-channel light scattering tool that enables researchers and manufacturers to rapidly and continuously monitor the stability of their products under varying stressor conditions, according to APMT.

Argen applications include polymer degradation and stability of other formulations such as paints, electronic materials and nanoparticle suspensions.

Tulane Ties

Tulane University officials say it is “tremendously satisfying” to see Reed’s vision and focused efforts reach the market.

APMT maintains a close relationship with Tulane, including collaborative research projects advancing capabilities and applications of both ACOMP and Argen, and training of over 18 interns in engineering physics, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, business and law.
