Third-party product certifier Green Seal is developing a new standard aimed at helping purchasers identify and choose environmentally preferable architectural insulation materials.

The nonprofit is seeking comments on its Scoping Document for Architectural Insulation Materials GS-54, which outlines the main issues the group will consider while developing the standard.

In the Scoping Document, Green Seal presents an initial review of several types of insulation, the impacts of those products, and potential issues that will likely be addressed by requirements included in the new standard.

Interested stakeholders, including manufacturers, facility managers, operators, consumer groups, health and environmental groups and general interest groups, are encouraged to submit feedback via the online form. To comment, parties must register as stakeholders.

Comments must be recieved by Nov. 23.

About the Document

The document serves as one of the group’s first stages of development.

In the Scoping Document, Green Seal presents an initial review of several types of insulation, the impacts of those products, and potential issues that will likely be addressed by requirements included in GS-54.

The standard will establish requirements for performance and protection of health and the environment, according to Green Seal.

The group expects to have a full draft standard available for public comment in early 2016.
