The Garland Company Inc. has introduced a new commercial roofing system designed to increase its resiliency as it ages.

The OptiMax roof system uses a thermoset polyurethane-modified membrane to achieve its resiliency, according to the company. The technology that Garland uses combines asphalt and polyurethane to help prevent cracking and leaking, the company said.

Billed as an industry first, the OptiMax roof system uses a thermoset polyurethane-modified membrane to achieve its resiliency, according to Garland.

Garland said the mixture of asphalt and polyurethane also helps improve mineral adhesion and provides good UV protection. During surface testing, OptiMax had fewer cracks compared to traditional asphalt-modified membranes and retained its tensile strength when exposed to UV radiation, the company said.

The new roof system also stands up well against heat and chemicals, the company said.
