An online paint service startup launched by industry veterans and designed to take the “pain out of painting,” has participated in a battlefield competition at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco.

Washington, D.C.-based EasyPaint was one of 25 startups chosen out of thousands to vie for a grand prize of $50,000 at the event, held Sept. 21-23. The battlefield competition involved pitching the development in front of top investors, entrepreneurs and technologists.

“While we didn’t win this year, there is always next year,” the company said on its blog Friday. The winner of the 2015 competition was Agrilyst, the developer of sensors designed for greenhouse efficiency.

EasyPaint aims to revolutionize the way consumers find and hire painters. The company was started by former Sherwin-Williams’ paint store manager Marty Cornish (shown in video). Benjamin Moore’s former CEO Denis Abrams serves as EasyPaint’s executive chairman.

Ahead of the event, EasyPaint released a press announcement describing the new service, which went live in the D.C. pilot market earlier this year.

Connecting Consumers with Painters

Drawing on over 100 years of combined experience in the paint industry, EasyPaint aims to revolutionize the way consumers find and hire painters, the company says.

Through the company’s website, EasyPaint.com, consumers answer a few questions, submit photos of spaces to be painted and schedule the date and time for their project. Within 24 hours, an all-inclusive quote is provided.

EasyPaint says it partners exclusively with the “best painting companies” to ensure the painting process is quick, professional and hassle free.

The company also provides an option to request color consultation, provided by one of the D.C. area’s top interior designers.

“All certified EasyPaint painters are insured, licensed, background-checked, and have at least five years’ experience,” the startup says.

Industry Vets Lead

The original idea for EasyPaint was formed in 2011 when CEO Marty Cornish managed a store for national paint manufacturer Sherwin-Williams.

Cornish said he saw firsthand the disconnect and frustration between homeowners and painters and recruited his friend and coworker Oliver Harriehausen, now EasyPaint’s COO, to help develop a solution.

TechCrunch Disrupt invited 25 startup companies, including EasyPaint, to compete in its startup battlefield. Presentations and demos were given in front of multiple industry leaders and investors.

In 2014, Denis Abrams, the former CEO of Benjamin Moore, joined the team to become EasyPaint’s executive chairman. The trio then launched the new service.

The company also recently added two new advisors: Scott Abbott, former CEO of Five Star Painting, and Aaron Lee, former chief technology officer of The Home Depot.

“EasyPaint offers the accountability that the industry has been lacking by guaranteeing high-quality painting results,” according to the company.

This is a great idea, even though the furnishings shown in the photo are nothing short of hideous!
