A one-minute drone video shows how quickly 200 pounds of dynamite imploded the historic Park Avenue Hotel in Detroit.

Designed by architect Louis Kamper, the 13-story hotel was erected in 1924 and was a historic landmark, according to the Detroit Free Press, which published the building’s “obituary” July 11—the day of its demise.

Shot with a DJI Phantom 2 Drone operated by TheGadgetGuy1, the video shows the dramatic demolition, from the first blasts to its disappearance into dust.

The drone video, with multiple angles of the implosion, can be viewed here.

Historic Moment

Once seen as a glittering architectural gem, the former hotel turned senior living center had become widely known for its “ZOMBIELAND” graffiti adorned top, according to video details.

Many residents broke their routines to witness the implosion, Detroit News reported. Officials used 200 pounds of dynamite to level the 252-room building.

"It was quick,” resident Colin McConnell, 39, told a local television station. “It took so long to set something up and so fast to do it.”

He stopped to see the implosion on a bike ride.

Making Room

The Detroit Historic District Commission voted to raze the building last month in order to make room for the loading dock for the new $450 million Red Wings hockey arena and entertainment district.

The arena is set to be completed in September 2017, according to the Free Press.
