HEYUAN, CHINA—This is no yolk: A construction crew in China has accidentally unearthed dozens of fossilized dinosaur eggs, including 19 that are fully intact.

The eggs were nesting in the red sandstone below a road in Heyuan in the Guangdong province on April 19 when workers happened upon them, according to TechTimes.com.

Henyuan is home to the world's largest collection of dinosaur eggs with over 10,000 individual samples, according to the Guinness World Records.

The largest egg was five inches in diameter. The fossils are thought to be from the late Cretaceous period, which dates from 89 million to 65 million years ago.

'Home of the Dinosaurs'

While clearly exciting to the rest of the world, dinosaur-related finds are a rather regular thing in Heyuan.

Nicknamed "Home of the Dinosaurs," the city of 3.3 million people is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as having the world's largest collection of dinosaur eggsmore than 10,000, as of November 2004.

Crews excavate the fossilized eggs, which are believed to be more than 65 million years old.

Heyuan Museum curator Du Yanli told CCTVNews that scientists would have to examine the new find to identify the eggs' species.

According to Du, the region's abundance of red sandstone rock formations makes it a likely home to dinosaur egg fossils.

The eggs, 19 of them fully intact, were found while workers were upgrading a road in Heyuan.

Du said that many other remains could possibly be found around the city and that construction projects should be halted when fossils are unearthed.

The eggs are with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, UPI.com reported.
