Mortar and concrete admixture giant MAPEI is bringing its colorful line of elastomeric coatings for above-grade concrete and masonry to the Americas.

The Elastocolor product family features four ready-to-use, water-based, 100 percent acrylic coatings that are also suitable for use on fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites and exterior insulation and finish systems (EIFS).

Elastocolor Flex is an exterior, above-grade, vertical-surface coating solution with high elastomeric properties, offering 825 percent elongation in performance testing.

Elastocolor Paint offers bridge-cracking build in a paint-like viscosity, according to MAPEI.

Elastocolor Coat has a high build during installation and can be applied to FRP composites, drying to touch in three to five hours. The product meets U.S. Department of Transportation performance criteria for elastomeric coatings and is designed for "excellent" abrasion resistance for longevity in severe weather, the company says.

Elastocolor Paint is formulated at a lower “paint-like” viscosity, with high-hiding characteristics. It has a smooth (non-textured) appearance and enough build to achieve bridge cracking up to 1/32 inch (1 mm), according to the company.

Elastocolor Primer WB is a water-based acrylic that acts as an adhesion promoter on the substrate to enhance bonding. The manufacturer recommends it for use on substrates exhibiting chalky, dusting surfaces after cleaning as well as for new or porous substrates and in hot, windy conditions.

Other Features

Elastocolor Flex, Coat and Paint are available in 25 standard colors and can be custom-tinted to any color in the MAPEI ColorMap system. The products employ proprietary BioBlock technology for prevention of mold and mildew.

The Elastocolor line is suitable for concrete, masonry, EIFS and fiber-reinforced polymer composite exteriors.

The Elastocolor system has been in use in Europe for several years and is now being introduced to the Americas, said David Mowery, MAPEI product manager for color products.

Mowery calls the line "a ‘system solution’ for engineers, architects and building contractors."

We are building a new police station and we are considering stained concrete over tile flooring due to cost. what are the Pro's and Con's fo stained concrete.
