A driver for Benjamin Moore & Co. apparently shot and killed his manager and then himself this week at a Vancouver, WA, distribution center, in an episode of workplace violence that stunned colleagues and sent authorities searching for answers.

No motivation was apparent in the death of logistics manager Ryan E. Momeny, 45, of Camas, WA, who had worked for the paint company since he was 16, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Ryan Momeny was shot and killed Monday in an apparent murder-suicide at a Benjamin Moore warehouse.

Authorities say Momeny was shot about 11:30 a.m. Monday (Feb. 3) by Robert R. Brown, 64, a driver at the warehouse.

Police called to the scene found Momeny dead in front of the building from an apparent gunshot wound, Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp told reporters.

During the ensuing police search for a gunman, a nearby elementary school was put on lockdown and area residents were urged to stay inside.

Before long, police found Brown dead inside a vehicle in the warehouse's parking lot. Police said Brown was the apparent victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The lockdown and shelter-in-place directive were lifted about 1 p.m. No one else was injured.

'I Can't Imagine Anyone Hurting That Guy'

Colleagues and friends were stunned by the episode. Reports described Momeny as a friendly, kind and respectful colleague and manager. His Facebook page shows Momeny climbing, surfing, jet-skiing, racing cars, and at his wedding.

Police found the manager's body in front of the Benjamin Moore facility in Vancouver, WA. After a brief search, they found the apparent gunman dead in a nearby vehicle.

Momeny was also a passionate Seahawks fan and was wearing a team jersey in celebration of their Sunday night Superbowl victory when he was killed.

A cousin's Facebook page said Momeny was killed "by a disgruntled co-worker."

Brian Cote, another employee, was hired by Momeny in 2007.

"He was a great guy — a family man, never swore, clean-cut, respectful of everybody," Cote told The Oregonian. "I can't imagine anyone hurting that guy.

"He was nice to the point where you wanted to ask him, 'Don't you ever have a bad day, bro?'"

Deeply Saddened

Counselors were on the scene to help the facility's employees.

Just 45 years old, Ryan Momeny said on LinkedIn that he had worked for Benjamin Moore for 29 years.

A Benjamin Moore spokeswoman said in a statement that the company was "deeply saddened to confirm" the "tragic event."

"We continue to gather details of what happened, and are working with law enforcement as they conduct their investigation," said spokeswoman Kimberlee M. Bradshaw.
