PPG Industries is taking two major steps to enlarge its European footprint, with separate announcements this week of new coating facilities in Russia and in Greece.

On Monday (Sept. 30), the Pittsburgh, PA-based paint and coatings maker announced the grand opening of a new spray application center and customer training facility in Acharnai, Greece.

On Tuesday (Oct. 1), it announced plans to invest $60 million in a new paint and coatings manufacturing plant in Lipetsk, Russia.

Training and Application Center

The new Greek center, locally named PPG Hellas S.A., will serve customers of PPG's architectural coatings, protective and marine, and automotive refinish businesses in Greece and the surrounding areas.

During the grand opening, Nikos Georgious, PPG managing director, welcomed more than 200 attendees.

Russia Production

PPG's new Russian plant, set for completion in late 2015, will employ more than 150 people and manufacture a wide variety of industrial and performance coatings.

"The investment further demonstrates PPG’s commitment to growth in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA)," the company said.

"PPG currently has operations in Russia and is supplying customers across a variety of industries in the country," the company said. The new plant will help PPG meet growing local demand for its coatings projects.

Russian demand for PPG's coatings is growing, the company says.

The new manufacturing hub will also include a new warehouse, distribution center, administrative offices and technical labs.

“We are delighted to expand our operations and commitment in Russia,” said Jens Brackebusch, PPG general manager, Russia. “We appreciate the ongoing loyalty of our Russian customers and are excited about this opportunity, which will allow us to grow with them.”
