Session: Performance of Air Barriers

Both technology and available materials and products continue to proliferate, with new offerings in liquid-applied barriers and flashings, air barriers with water-resistive functionality and drainable interstices. This presentation will review applicable AAMA, ICC and ASTM standards and identify both gaps and works in progress.

Speaker Bio:

Tom Butt, FAIA, LEED AP BD+C is a licensed architect and contractor who is president of Interactive Resources, a California AE firm. He chairs two ASTM task groups in charge of vapor retarders and water resistive barriers.

Tom has a bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Arkansas and a Master’s Degree in Architecture and Urban Design form UCLA.

He has served as a city councilmember in Richmond, California for over 19 years and also serves on numerous regional and statewide boards and commissions involved with transportation, sustainability and urban planning.
