Nanotechnology and new developments in architectural coatings are among the 21st-century topics to be covered at the first Eastern Coatings Show slated for April 29 to May 2 in Atlantic City, NJ.

The show, intended to complement the Western Coatings Symposium, offers a two-track series of technical and educational presentations to “create a more profound understanding of the theory, the science, the manufacturing, and the marketing of coatings,” according to show organizers.

Advances in architectural coatings and pigment technologies are set to be discussed at the upcoming show.

Hosted by three organizations—the Metropolitan New York Coatings Association, the Philadelphia Society for Coatings Technology. and the New England Society for Coatings Technology—the show will take place at the Taj Mahal Hotel and Resort.

The organizers say 51 exhibitors will be on hand, demonstrating products and services for today's coatings industry. Exhibit space is already sold out, but a waiting list has been established.

Modern Coatings Topics

ECS presentations range from nanotechnology and the coatings world, to an analysis of new hybrid molecules, to controlling the molecular structure of polymers. New developments in architectural coatings as well as advances in pigment technologies to meet challenges of both the environment and green chemistry will be also be discussed.

A full list of topics, descriptions and presenters is available here.

Presenters are scheduled to include Robert McMullin and John Du of BYK USA; Dr. Robert A. Iezzi of RAI Technical Solutions Inc.; Matthew Linares of Evonik-Degussa Corp.; Sudhir Achar and Leo J. Procopio of The Dow Chemical Company; Bridgette M. Budhlall of the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, MA; Jennifer Hall of Reichhold Inc.; and Dr. Steffen Pilotek of Buhler Inc.

Focus on Future Trends

The organizers are anticipating a wide range of people in attendance due to the “broad spectrum of topics to be covered,” according to Bob Whiteley, an ECS committee member.

“This [show] should be relevant to those in the paints and coatings business as well as other allied industries such as printing inks, adhesives and building and construction chemicals, to name a few.

“One emphasis of the show is a look forward to help with understanding future trends in the market place. This should appeal to everyone.”
