Global flooring manufacturer Flowcrete Group Ltd. says it has redeveloped its Deckshield ED coating system to enhance protection for multi-level parking structures exposed to year-round environmental conditions.
The reformulation includes a new waterproofing membrane to shield exposed decks from harsh weather and to prevent water from entering the concrete substrate, the company reports.

Flowcrete's new system is available in the Asia Pacific, Austrialia, India, and the Middle East regions.
The company also announced a quick-cure version of the system.
Characteristics, Features
The low-VOC, solvent-free, flexible polyurethane deck coating also offers improved crack-bridging characteristics, the company adds, making it an "ideal" choice for suspended concrete slabs, often used in parking facility designs.
The new formula is designed to protect against "extreme" UV exposure, which ensures the coating's color retention.
"Exposed decks are subject to harsh environmental conditions all year round, including rain, sleet, snow, extreme UV, and freeze and thaw cycles," said David McNeece, business development manager for Flowcrete.
"The new Deckshield ED formula is purposely designed to cope with these conditions."
Other Applications
In addition to parking facilities, Deckshield ED is recommended for use on pathways, entrance and exit points and other exposed areas subject to foot and vehicular traffic, in both refurbishment and new-build projects.
The system can be applied in a wide variety of color schemes, the company says.
Quick-Cure Version
Flowcrete has also developed a fast-track variant of the product, called Deckshield ED Rapide.
"Ready for use just hours after installation, it is designed to enable very fast application on exposed decks," the company said.
The Deckshield ED Rapide version is based on methyl methacrylate (MMA) technology and carries all the benefits of Deckshield ED, with quick cure, the company says.
