The secrets of producing superior results in polished concrete flooring will be the topic of an upcoming free webinar sponsored by Durability + Design.

Architectural Specifications for Polished Concrete” will be held from 11 a.m. to noon ET Dec. 7.

The presenter will be Brad Burns, executive director of the Concrete Polishing Association of America.

This webinar is designed to offer an in-depth look at the means and methods used to produce polished concrete flooring.

Topics will include the equipment, chemicals and diamond tooling required to complete the various types of polished concrete, as well as the sustainability of each concrete type.

Attendees will be able to define the different types of polished concrete (bonded abrasive, burnished, hybrid, or surface coated concrete) and identify when and where applications are best specified.

The discussion will include the types of equipment, chemicals and diamond tooling required to complete the various types of polished concrete, as well as the life cycle and sustainability of each type of polished concrete.

Participants will be able to:

  • Define the different types of polished concrete and discern when and where to specify each specific type based on a commercial project example;
  • Identify the pros and cons of each type of polished concrete's sustainable design and how to enhance design solutions that maximize long-term benefits using polished concrete flooring;
  • Calculate the estimated life-cycle cost of each type of polished concrete, based on the course life cycle sample estimate form; and
  • Identify possible health and safety concerns related to each type of polished concrete and specify best practices/procedures to minimize environmental and safety hazards.

About the Presenter

Brad Burns is a founding member of the Concrete Polishing Association of America and has been instrumental in developing standard procedures for the polishing industry. He has been in the flooring business for more than 28 years and recently owned and managed a flooring company specializing in polished concrete with his wife, Terry. He is a member of ASCC and ACI and frequent speaker and instructor on concrete polishing.
