PPG Industries' industrial coatings business has unveiled a new pretreatment and powder coatings combination line for architectural metals, appliances and other applications.

The new UltraPax packaged technology program couples a full range of pretreatment products with PPG powder coatings as part of a cost-effective, comprehensive, single-source coatings solution, the company says.

Engineered Together

PPG says it formulates, produces and tests the pretreatment and powder products together in order to meet stringent performance requirements.

The pretreatment and powder coatings products that form the UltraPax coatings systems are tested under harsh, demanding industry and market standards. Coatings are tested to a variety of ASTM standards for corrosion and weather protection, impact resistance, flexibility, UV durability, and other physical properties.

The system is tested on hot- and cold-rolled steel against ASTM standards.

Each UltraPax Coatings System is tested on cold- and hot-rolled steel using ASTM standards. Each standardized test panel is pretreated with one of PPG's five pretreatment regimens and topcoated with one of the company's eight Envirocron powder coatings.

Products & Applications

PPG offers a variety of pretreatment solutions including traditional spray and immersion zinc and iron phosphate systems, multi-metal cleaners, low-temperature cleaners, and low-temperature phosphates. The company says it also offers thin-film zirconium pretreatments.

The Ultrapax combinations also have applications for the automotive, equipment and general finishing markets.

The UltraPax coatings systems program also includes a wide range of the company's Envirocron powder coatings. This brand features polyesters, urethanes, epoxies, and hybrids, the company says.

The coatings system combinations have applications for several industries, including general finshing, appliances, transportation, auto, architectural, and heavy-duty equipment.
