Dave Lurie, a familiar name on many trade publications, has been selected to head the Houston-based Powder Coating Institute.

Lurie has been appointed executive director of the trade organization, succeeding Rodger Talbert. Talbert, president of Talbert Consulting, had been technical director of the group since 2009 and added the duties of executive director in April 2011.

Talbert resigned from both positions effective June 1 and was succeeded by Lurie and Ken Kreeger as interim co-directors, a PCI spokeswoman said. Kreeger also served as interim director in 2010 after then-executive director Steve Houston resigned.

Lurie accepted the permanent appointment earlier this month.

‘Great Strides’

“We are pleased that we have been able to find someone with Dave Lurie’s business background, devotion to customer service, and creative and innovative thinking in the markets that we serve as well as the integrity to help guide the association in the future,” Bob Cregg, president of the PCI board of directors, said in a statement.

“I am confident we will continue to make great strides under his leadership.”

Lurie has nearly 32 years of trade publication experience with BNP Media, where he began his career as market research director. During his career, he served as publisher of Paint & Coatings Industry, Industrial Heating, and Ceramic Industry magazines and founded Process Heating and Adhesives & Sealants Industry magazines. He also founded the Furnaces North America trade show and started and ran several conferences and events.

Lurie has also has served on the boards of the Industrial Heating Equipment Association and the Metal Treating Institute. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University.

Cregg said Lurie “looks forward to working with member companies to help grow the use of powder coating.”
