International Paint’s waterborne intumescent coating Interchar 1120 is now available throughout North America, having just been rolled out in Canada.

Designed to protect interior exposed steel, the VOC-compliant, thin-film acrylic intumescent is part of International Paint’s Firesthetics family of fireproofing technologies, which were introduced to the U.S. architectural and building markets in 2010. The line includes the flagship Interchar 212 epoxy intumescent fireproofing.

Bathium Canada Inc. of Montreal used Interchar 1120 during a recent expansion project.

The “smooth, thin film follows the contours of the steel to deliver a decorative architectural finish,” according to International Paint.

Features and Applications

Interchar 1120 is low VOC, HAPS free, and has no organic solvents. It is optimized for one- to two-hour fire protection.

The product has been tested in accordance with multiple fire test standards for specifying and supplying global projects, the manufacturer says.

Interchar 1120 is Underwriters Laboratories (UL) classified for use on interior structural steel, and formulated as a single-pack product for easy spray application with zero dust and odor emissions, the company says.

The product is suitable for use in a variety of commercial structures, including airports, office buildings, retail complexes, manufacturing complexes, conference centers, educational facilities, government institutions, health care facilities, and clean rooms.
